Sewer collapse downtown forces emergency road closures

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A sewer collapse downtown is forcing a number of emergency street closures.

Metropolitan Sewer District found a cave-in of the roadway close to East Primary Road and South Hancock Road. The collapse is because of a failure in a 102-inch concrete sewer pipe that was put in in 1948.

East Important Road shall be closed indefinitely between South Clay Road and South Jackson Road. South Hancock Road can be closed from East Washington Road to Billy Goat Strut Alley.

MSD spokesman Steve Tedder says repairs might take weeks.  Crews should wait till after this weekend’s anticipated heavy rains earlier than they will start restore work.

MetroSafe says barricades are in place. However anticipate detours delays close to Louisville Slugger Subject and within the NuLu neighborhood till repairs are made. The doorway to Louisville Slugger Area parking at Foremost and South Jackson streets stays open.
