HOUSTON, Texas (CBS) — Officers affirm a police officer died because of Harvey floodwaters in Houston.
Houston’s Mayor Sylvester Turner says Sgt. Steve Perez, fifty nine, was killed in his patrol automotive driving to work in downtown Houston on Sunday morning.
Officers say Perez was driving to work Sunday morning when he acquired trapped in excessive water at I-forty five and the Hardy Toll Street.
Chief Artwork Acevedo stated Perez’s household didn’t need him to go to work, however he did.
He was two days shy of his sixtieth birthday.
Turner stated in a tweet: “Sergeant Perez fulfilled his function. His mission is full. This metropolis should have fun his life. 9K police and hearth working to serve.”
Perez had been with the Houston Police Division for 34 years. In a press convention Tuesday, Turner thanked Perez for his service and all those that have died within the Harvey flooding.
