Former LMPD officer gets 5-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to theft

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A former Louisville Metro Police officer will spend 5 months in jail.

The sentence was handed down Wednesday for former LMPD Officer Kyle Willett.

In response to a launch from the U.S. Lawyer’s Workplace, Willett waived a grand jury indictment and pleaded responsible to theft from an interstate cargo final December.

Officers say Willett admitted that he stole money from a Louisville UPS facility whereas working as a drug interdiction activity pressure officer.

Authorities say between January and August of 2016, Willett recognized packages that probably contained money. In response to investigators, Willett would take the packages to his automotive and open them.

As a part of the plea settlement, Willett forfeited $seventy four,745.ninety nine.

Following his jail time period, Willett will probably be required to serve 5 months of house detention.
