(CBS SF) — A serious earthquake has struck off the coast of Chile Monday afternoon.
The earthquake measured a 7.1 magnitude and struck at 6:38 p.m. native time (2:38 p.m. Pacific Time) about 27 miles west of the coastal metropolis of Valparaiso, in line with the U.S. Geological Survey.
It was adopted by at the least three aftershocks, every measuring no less than a 5.zero magnitude.
Authorities in Chile introduced the evacuation of coastal communities within the Valparaiso area, however the evacuations have been canceled after it was decided the a tsunami was not imminent.
There have been reviews of energy outages, suspension of metro practice service and visitors jams in Valparaiso and neighboring areas.
To date, no studies of main injury or accidents.
